That’s a significant increase over that last time the site performed the survey in 2009. At that time, Facebook was mentioned in 20 percent of the petitions sampled by the researchers.

While Facebook is being combed for signs of infidelity by divorce attorneys, they’re also looking for disparaging remarks made by spouses about each other after they’ve separated and are embroiled in litigation, according to the website. It found the most common reasons for citing Facebook in a divorce petition to be:

Inappropriate messages to members of the opposite sex.

Separated spouses posting nasty comments about each other.

Facebook friends reporting spouse’s behavior.

Twitter was mentioned in only 20 of the 5,000 petitions analyzed by the website.

Because social networks have become one of the primary tools for communication, it has become the easiest place for people to have an affair or flirt with the opposite sex, Divorce-Online spokesman Mark Keenan said at the website.

“Also the use of Facebook to make comments about ex-partners to friends has become extremely common with both sides using Facebook to vent their grievances against each other,” he added.

Facebook has become fertile ground for evidence in U.S. divorce proceedings, too. For example, a survey in February 2010 of the members of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers revealed that 81 percent of them had seen an increase over the previous five years in the use of evidence from social networks in divorce proceedings. Moreover, 66 percent said that Facebook was a primary source for divorce evidence.

No doubt Facebook is being targeted by divorce lawyers because it’s convenient and it has a high-tech cachet. As Dan Tynan observed in an article on Facebook myths:

“In an unhappy marriage, it would make sense that spouses are paying more attention to, and spending more time with, their Facebook friends than their significant others. (Of course, it doesn’t hurt when your old high school flame is looking mighty fine in his/her profile picture.) That doesn’t mean Facebook caused the break up. Social networks are just a sexier thing for divorce attorneys to throw into the mix than, say, TV.”

Source: PCWorld.com

Nokia Lumia 800 Demo of Skyscanner. Skyscanner allows users to search millions of routes on over 1000 airlines to find the cheapest flights. The app also lets users track prices of selected flights with the Live Tile. You pin flights to the start screen and the prices automatically update every hour.

Skyscanner was released at the Windows Phone Marketplace earlier this month. Specifically, we talking about support for LTE networks. Microsoft and its partners have promised that will change in 2012, and if today’s rumors have any weight, we could see LTE-equipped Windows Phone smartphones from HTC, Samsung, and Nokia at the CES trade show in early January.

According to Paul Thurrott, Microsoft will announce three new Windows Phone devices at CES that will support 4G LTE service from AT&T. A model from HTC called the Radiant is due to join a Samsung model named the Mendel, which is supposed to have a very large display. Nokia is expected to reveal its first LTE smartphone, called the ACE, that is thought to hit shelves on March 18, 2012. The HTC and Samsung models are expected to be available in the first half of the year. We expect that all three models will have different names when they hit the market (especially the Nokia, since ACE was already used by Samsung and Nokia will likely incorporate Lumia into the name) and that these are just code-names for the time being.

It is not yet known what version of Windows Phone these new LTE-equipped models will sport, as the next version due, code-named Tango, is expected tobe for low-end models, which these rumored devices are most certainly not. Even if they all run Windows Phone 7.5 Mango, the new LTE models will have to have some sort of custom LTE compatibility baked in, as Mango does not support 4G service in its current state.

Thurrott also says that the Nokia Lumia 710 will be headed to Verizon Wireless in April, but that it will not feature LTE support. T-Mobile will have an exclusive on the Lumia 710 for about three months, as it is releasing its version to customers on January 11. I absolutely love this phone and when I held it in my hand for the first time I got that same feeling of excitement as when I bought my first iPhone. This phone just feels right in the hand and I love the design.

Yes at the moment I have an iPhone 3GS, and for some time I have wanted to upgrade to the next iPhone in line. But I didn’t want the iPhone 4 because of the antenna problem, dropped calls and the fact that I couldn’t see it bringing anything new to the table. So my plan was to wait it out until either the iPhone 5 or 4S arrived, but now I just can’t seem to get my head around buying it. First it was the battery issue which still isn’t fixed even after three software updates, everybody is still shouting about this just being a software issue, but why haven’t they fixed it then? I’m having my concerns… and while waiting for a solution it has made me open my eyes ever since I saw the new Nokia Lumia 800. Finally another beautiful phone next to the iPhone. Industrial design as it’s best, simple smooth and stylish and before my iPhone I had a Nokia which also made me think about durability.

Durability
Yes my screen on my iPhone is cracked and I can’t say that I’m happy about it. And yes… it has already had a visit to the iPhone repairshop. iPhone repairshops there is a new concept for you, a whole new business which has evolved. I have never in my lifetime seen so many destroyed phones as today, it’s like an epedemic of cracked glass everywhere. Some weeks ago an insiders tip on a good repairshop was delivered over the dinner table with an utmost satisfaction. That’s grand. Well back to the point at hand. Nokia makes durable phones. I once smashed my Nokia to the ground and it was still working afterwards, wow! You most definitely won’t want to do that with your iPhone. Here is something to bash…. but the point of the matter is that Nokia makes the best phones, they might have fucked up on the software side, but when it comes to the phones they have always been ahead.

Design
I like the design of the iPhone and I have the deepest respect for this phone, but I’m just not that excited about it as I previously was. And what does it matter when almost everybody is wrapping their iPhone in some ugly cover? This completely dissolves any idea of beautiful design. The latest trend is how you now can buy a battery cover because of the bad battery, which makes your phone look like a huge brick. How would you like to wrap your phone with this one?

I have actually been a quite nice since this battery cover is one of the nicer ones. Go have look see, there is a lot of bricks out there…

If you are wondering why I haven’t said anything about Android, don’t worry we’ll come to that later on.

But am I only thinking about durability, design and phone quality? No, I really like the new Windows Phone 7 OS. It’s refreshing to see a new approach which integrates features of the phone in a whole new way and which doesn’t just copy iOS, cough cough Android. Ohh and the best thing is that it works and it’s fast. The idea of having a live front updating me with various information is just great. The static icon based layout is just outdated and boring. Nothing has happened since the iPhone came out, unless you think grouping your icons is a great feature. This great article by CNET journalist Rich Trenholm describes exactly what I’m talking about, so I won’t get into the new and interesting UI of Windows Phone 7. You can read the whole article here: Why I don’t want an iPhone any more

Features
So what more. Ohhh yeah the new Siri feature. That sounded kinda cool when I first heard about it, but then when will I ever use that? It’s the feature which has that wow effect you most likely will never use. I tried it and sorry it’s just to slow and faulty compared to just using your fingers. Maybe sometime in the future it will be of use. The fact is, that is that speech recognition has been around for many years now and it’s still beta. I almost forgot to talk about the iPhone 4 feature FaceTime! It’s like everywhere I look all the iPhone users doing FaceTime. Even though the feature was introduced ten years ago it took Apple to introduce it ;-) Today when Apple announces a new feature it is just to amazing to be true.

Well… I love my iPhone, it has served me well and at the time I bought it, it was, most definitely, the best phone on the market. But now it’s time to pass it on and bring on the Nokia Lumia 800. Which in my opinion is the best phone out there today. No more dropped calls and excellent voice and data communication, probably the best. I guess I’m one of the few who still thinks this is an important feature of a mobile phone. It’s very fast and easy to find apps on the phone too. Storing them in alphabetical order, hmm why didn’t some one think of that before? And then there is the Nokia Drive. Which is a great plus when you are a frequent traveler and need offline navigation. With the price of data roaming today, Google Maps is a no go. Ohh and did I forget to mention the design, well I guess I did. It seems like Nokia and Microsoft has learned from their previous mistakes and finally made a great phone.

Android
Ok lets talk a bit about Android. There is probably many good things which can be said about Android phones, but you won’t hear them here. Though I’m a big fan of Open Source this just isn’t one of them. Just have a look at some of the articles on this blog, yes I am a daily user of Linux Ubuntu, Eclipse, Netbeans, Drupal, WordPress, Apache and NGINX. Just a sidenote; if you’re into web and servers checkout NGINX and Drupal, amazing work! I guess I am the kind of guy who likes the best of all worlds and Android is not one of them.

Ok here we go. I think they are ugly. I guess if you are one of those who have blue led lights in your comp you might think otherwise, but I haven’t seen one Android phone where I liked the design. As said, this is a matter of taste, but for me they just seem so plasticlike and cheap. Even the Samsung Galaxy or Epic just looks like cheap imitations of iPhone. I really understand the ongoing lawsuit between Apple and Samsung. These phones are just nothing compared to the iPhone and Nokia Lumia 800 when it comes to design.

Then there is the UI which differs from each vendor. Samsung just copying iPhone, HTC which looks dreadful(somebody please remove that clock) and the vanilla… well Google has never won an award on design. They are really working hard on it in all their areas of businesses, but that’s what they are. I guess the cool thing is how you can customize it in any way possible, but even then I haven’t seen a nice looking Android UI yet. And why do they almost all stutter? I really don’t get it when you read the specifications on these phones. When it comes to Android phones it seems to be more about the specs and not the user experience. And what does that matter?

The launch of Samsung Galaxy Nexus smartphone, the first to run Google’s Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich

Security
Great news! BitDefender, AVG, McAfee, and all mayor virus companies are launching antivirus and security programs for Android. What does this tell you?

Android is a burning platform when it comes to security. Just checkout Google Trends when searching for Android virus. Here is the link: http://www.google.com/trends?q=android+virus&ctab=0&geo=all&date=all&sort=0

Checking Google News for Android there is not one day when I don’t see a new article about Androids security problems. Let’s have a look what’s stored for today:
Android’s popularity makes it open target for malware, says study This was the first out of three articles and I really don’t understand the title compared to the other main reason cited in the article:

“FortiGuard Labs has found approximately five times the amount of malicious families on the Android OS versus what we’ve found on iOS,” Axelle Apvrille, senior mobile anti-virus researcher at Fortinet, said in a statement. “We believe that this disparity can be attributed to the way Apple handles iOS application development and distribution. Unlike Android, which makes it fairly easy to place applications for people to download, iOS requires developers to undergo some strict screening from Apple before the application can make it to the Apple Store.”

Just think about the waste of time, effort and money being used on writing viruses and antivirus programs. Not to say how many people this is going to harm being the largest mobile platform in the world. iPhone and Microsoft don’t have this problem since they check the quality of the apps being published. This is not the Open Source I so much love and NOT a great way of contributing to economic crises where in at the moment.

Here is an example of just how severe this problem is recently discovered by North Carolina State University researchers. This Youtube video demonstrates how apps can bypass permissions to let it do all kinds of terrible things users won’t want it to. What does this mean? Well for one sending texts to premium numbers in the background without the user knowing anything about it. This has been confirmed by Google and Motorola, but that HTC and Samsung have been really slow in responding to, if not ignoring, our reports/inquiries.

www.youtube.com/watch?v=xGwTviVRcrg

Pushy ads everywhere
Then there is the ads. One can’t say that this platform supports the pay for good honest work. Here is the intro from an article brought by PC World three days ago:

Are you wondering how that mysterious icon ended up on your Android phone’s start screen? Annoyed at the ads clogging your notification bar? You aren’t alone. Thousands of Android apps now include software that shoves marketing icons onto your phone’s start screen or pushes advertising into your notification bar-and many of the apps give you no warning about the ad invasion.

Read the whole article here: Sneaky Mobile Ads Invade Android Phones

Developers not making money on Android Apps
The problem is that the Android market is getting flooded with low quality apps which aren’t attractive to anybody. So we are back again at size and specifications, which is just waste of time if you can’t get a hard on. And believe me, Google doesn’t give a damn, they just push more ads everywhere I look. Learning people not to get paid for the work they do as long as their wealth is increasing. Which it is. So please don’t be so ignorant or naive to think that Google is concerned about you. It is a company like every other which main goals are to maximize profits. Remember that you are the judge and in the end has the responsibility that comes with choice. And I for one welcomes the competition. It should be known by now that to much power to the few doesn’t have a good ending.

Here is a link to the article about how Android developers aren’t earning any money: App developers look to Android

So yes I’m back with Nokia and evil evil Microsoft. Users started complaining of the poor battery life shortly after the iPhone 4S debuted, but recently the gripes have grown louder.

Home-grown solutions for the iPhone 4S battery dilemma include dropping push e-mail, lowering the screen brightness, turning off calendar notifications, and shutting down Wi-Fi when not in use. Or, to put it another way, iPhone 4S users have discovered sensible battery life management practices.

Apple has yet to officially address the iPhone 4S battery issue, but The Guardian reports that Apple engineers are on the case and contacting users directly to gather more information about the issue. Calls to several Apple Stores for help resulted in suggestions to make a Genius Bar appointment or were directed to an AppleCare hotline with a constant busy signal.

This is not the first time Apple has had to deal with iPhone battery life issues. In 2010, users complained of battery life issues after upgrading to iOS4 and 3GS owners complained of battery issues in 2009 when the device debuted.

DIY Battery Life
Critics and users impatient for an official statement from Apple about the iPhone 4S are trying to solve the battery drain problem on their own. The most popular culprit found so far is a feature in the iPhone 4S’s Location Services that lets a phone discover its time zone automatically. The feature can be switched off by opening the iPhone 4S’s Settings app (the grey cog) and selecting Location Services > System Services (at the very bottom of the screen) > Setting Time Zone.

But that’s not the only solution. Apple’s support forum thread on the iPhone 4S battery issue is replete with creative concoctions for battery-saving techniques. This morning, there are 2388 comments and more than 157,000 views on the Apple support forum thread dealing with the iPhone 4S battery life issue.

One user named TonyLukes3 disabled location-based iAds (but left Setting Time Zone on), reduced his screen display brightness to 85 percent, turned off iCloud for Photo Stream and “Documents & Data,” and switched his push e-mail setting to automatically fetch mail every 15 minutes.

WymJamesfound a winning combo by doing a full restore of his iPhone 4S from iTunes, disabling Setting Time Zone, and turning off calendar notifications from Notification Center (Settings > Notifications > Calendar). Echoing similar sentiments, Sam81 turned off calendar notifications for his two exchange accounts and then restarted the device.

Not to be outdone, angrywaiter’s mix of battery saving techniques included switching off “location crap,” calendar notifications, using fetch mail instead of push, and turning off the Wi-Fi radio when not in use. Angrywaiter also dealt with the issue by resetting his phone, which he says he’s done six times over the last four days.

The iPhone 4S battery
It’s not clear if any of the shared solutions identified the actual cause of the iPhone 4S’s reported battery problems, or if users are simply being turned on to good battery management practices. Lowering your screen brightness, turning off the Wi-Fi radio when not in use, or opting for fetch mail instead of push are common ways to extend battery life for any phone.

It’s hard to know for sure if any of these solutions can be traced to an actual problem with the iPhone 4S, and without an official statement from Apple, the battery drain guessing game continues.

That leaves only one question for the rest of you this Halloween day: what’s your battery-saving witches’ brew?

Bill Gurley; Too Many Start-Ups Chase Too Little Cash

Christian D. But many companies, even some that have done fairly well in their initial phase, are finding it increasingly difficult to raise the next round of cash.

So far this year, some 859 companies have raised an initial round totaling $3.9 billion, according to data from the National Venture Capital Association and ThomsonReuters. That compares with 777 companies raising $3.5 billion this time last year and 523 companies raising $2.3 billion in the first nine months of 2009.

The plethora of early stage companies is a result of the comparatively low cost of bringing new technology products in the age of dirt-cheap software and data storage and massive social-marketing engines such as Facebook. A growing legion of wealthy “angel investors,” many of whom made their money in the last boom, has contributed to the start-up boom too.

But it can still cost a lot of money to get a company from proof-of-concept to maturity and that’s exactly where start-ups are running into trouble. Every year sees some start-ups that don’t make it to that next round. But this year, the situation is particularly bad, entrepreneurs and their potential backers say, simply because there are so many more young companies. And next year they expect it to get worse.

Of course, the hottest companies are having no trouble winning new rounds of funding. Cloud-based storage company Dropbox raised $250 million earlier this month in its third round of capital from companies including Benchmark. Instead, the crunch is hitting the hundreds of fledgling companies that most people have never heard of.

“This is more about the long tail,” meaning companies that aren’t dominating, said Gurley, whose counts companies such as real-estate service Zillow Inc (Z.O) and restaurant-reservation service OpenTable Inc (OPEN.O) among his investment picks.

Exacerbating the problem: there is less cash to go around. Except for a handful of marquee names such as Benchmark, Accel Partners and Sequoia Capital, venture-capital firms are having trouble raising funds themselves. Last quarter, fund-raising reached an eight-year low, with VC firms raising just $1.72 billion, compared with $3.5 billion a year ago, according to the NVCA. All of this means that many start-ups will have to look for alternatives to raising new funds. One such route is what’s known in the trade as a “face-saving acquisition.” That means selling the business, sometimes for a song, before it has had a chance to grow, with the acquiring company often interested mainly in the start-up’s staffers.

That talent, particularly engineers, usually ends up deployed in the acquiring company’s core business, while the acquired start-up’s business quietly closes. Facebook is famous for this type of move, as with its purchase last year of Internet-services company Chai Labs.

Another potential outcome for a cash-strapped start-up is to simply muddle along, never achieving the scale that might have been possible with more money. nAnd some, of course, will fail outright.

That’s what happened to MyNines, a sample-sales aggregator site that raised around $350,000 in seed money last year, according to ThomsonReuters data. It would have taken another couple million to ramp up the business, founder and former CEO Apar Kothari told Reuters, which she didn’t think she could raise when she ran out of cash earlier this year. Now, Kothari is head of new business at online retailer Rue La La and MyNines is no more. She blamed its shuttering partly on missteps and partly on the fund-raising climate. ”I still believe in the concept,” she said.

For venture capitalists, having more companies to choose among means, in theory, that they can select the most promising and deserving start-ups and perhaps get better deals than previously.

The Best Programming Contest Ever Made – The AI Challenge Ants 2011 [Developer]

Christian D. Have a look here. LESS extends CSS with dynamic behavior such as variables, reusable objects (Mixins/Classes), rules and functions. This minimizes the amount of CSS code, makes code reusable, easier to maintain, sustainable, etc.. This might sound difficult, but actually it’s not that hard. Here is an example of a varible used in LESS:

Varibles
Variables allow you to specify widely used values in a single place, and then re-use them throughout the style sheet, making global changes as easy as changing one line of code.

// LESS

@color: #4D926F;

#header {
color: @color;
}
h2 {
color: @color;
}

The variable @color can here be reused throughout the style sheet and changed one place to make global changes.

Reusable objects / Classes with functions / Mixins
Here an example on using Mixins, as the are called in LESS termonology. Mixins allow you to embed all the properties of a class into another class by simply including the class name as one of its properties. It’s just like variables, but for whole classes. Mixins can also behave like functions, and take arguments, as seen in the example bellow.

// LESS

.rounded-corners (@radius: 5px) {
border-radius: @radius;
-webkit-border-radius: @radius;
-moz-border-radius: @radius;
}

#header {
.rounded-corners;
}
#footer {
.rounded-corners(10px);
}

This enables you to reuses the Mixin .rounded-corners and specify border-radius throughout the stylesheet.

Write some of your own LESS
LESS runs on both the client-side (IE 6+, Webkit, Firefox), and server-side. And has available modules/plugins for both Drupal and WordPress.

Client-side
To use LESS client-side link your .less stylesheets with the rel set to “stylesheet/less”:

<link rel="stylesheet/less" type="text/css" href="styles.less">

Then download less.js and then include it from the top of the page, like so:

<script type="text/javascript" src="less.js"></script>

Make sure you include your stylesheets before the script.

Drupal usage
Drupal has a LESS CSS Preprocessor module. We highly recommend this mobile application for all smartphone users. Viber is an mobile application for iPhone® and Android™ phones, a dialer/communications replacement app that lets you make free phone calls and send text messages to anyone in the world who also has the application installed. This allows you to cut the expensive voice and text plans to the bare minimum.

The call log shows everything, not just calls made through Viber, which is why this can be a full-on dialer replacement. When you launch it, you can see your recent/missed call list, your contacts, the keypad/dialer, messages. It uses your own phone number as your Viber number and scans your phonebook for contacts already using Viber and more, gives you a list of items such as inviting friends to join you on the service and sharing it on Facebook and Twitter.

The contacts section will also bring up all of your contacts, letting you sort them by showing only those who are also on Viber, all of them at once, or only the ones you designate as favorites, which also includes, at the bottom, your frequently contacted list of numbers. For anyone who is on Viber in the non-Viber exclusive lists, a small icon will show next to their name.

The sound quality is very good, but a bit too low. Inside sources have confirmed that this will be corrected in the very near future.

Soon it will also be available for BlackBerry users!

Introduction

www.youtube.com/watch?v=0nQN5w5ct_E

Download the app here: Viber.com
